  • Window perf is a calendered adhesive-backed vinyl that is perforated with a pattern of round, evenly spaced holes. Window perf is sometimes called “see-through vinyl,” or “one-way vision film,” because it partially blocks vision from the outside, but not from the inside.

    In most cases, the actual size of the holes are uniform (usually about 1.5mm). It’s the distance between the holes that determines the print coverage vs. visibility. For example, 50/50 window perf film means that 50 percent of the material is printable area and 50 percent is perforation. Window perf comes in a number of different hole configurations; 50/50, 60/40 and 70/30 are the most common. The first number in this designation represents the amount of printable area and the second number represents the amount of open (see-through) area. Therefore, a 70/30 window perf has a larger printable area but, less see-through area, than a 50/50 window perf.

    Step 1: Preparation

    1. Clean the Boards: Before anything else, ensure your boards are clean and free of dirt or debris. A clean surface is crucial for a smooth application.

    2. Gather Your Tools: Have your squeegee, heat gun/hair dryer, masking tape, and ruler ready.

    Step 2: Positioning and Alignment

    1. Align the Wrap: Place the wrap on the board, aligning it according to your preferred position. Use masking tape to secure one edge of the wrap to the board.

    2. Check Alignment: Step back and make sure the wrap is properly aligned. You might want to check the design's orientation, especially if it's directional.

    Step 3: Application

    1. Start Squeegeeing: Starting from the taped edge, slowly peel off the backing of the wrap while gently squeegeeing the wrap onto the board. Use the squeegee to smooth out the wrap and push out any air bubbles.

    2. Heat and Stretch: As you move along, use a heat gun or hair dryer to warm the wrap. This makes it more pliable and helps with conforming to the contours of the board.

    Step 4: Fine-Tuning

    1. Trim Excess: Once the wrap is fully applied, use a sharp knife or blade to trim the excess wrap along the edges of the board. Take your time to get clean cuts.

    2. Final Squeegeeing: Go over the entire wrap once more with the squeegee, paying extra attention to edges and corners.

    Step 5: Admire Your Work
